Ms. Rivera's Weekly Communications

November 4, 2022

Dear AITE Family,

Today marks the end of the first quarter.  The first quarter grades will be official in PowerSchool on November 18.  If you have any questions about your child’s grades, please contact their teachers directly.  You may also reach out to your child’s school counselor.  Just a reminder that the Junior Class is sponsoring a Skate Night at Twin Rinks tonight from 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm.  Tickets are $15, which includes the ice skate rental cost.  The event is open to anyone, so students can bring siblings or friends who attend other schools.  Twin Rinks is located at 1063 Hope Street in the Springdale section of Stamford.

Have a nice weekend!

Kind regards,

Ms. Rivera

 COVID Dashboard

AITE had 1 reported COVID case this week.

 Attendance

While there have been some changes to the Board of Education’s Attendance Policy, what has not changed is that written documentation for all absences is still required.  Please email Penny Giantomidis at pgiantomidis@stamfordct.gov or send a note when your child returns to school with the date and reason your child was absent.  The note must be received within 10 days of the absence. Absences one through nine are considered excused when the parent/guardian approves the absence and submits appropriate documentation.  For the tenth and all other absences thereafter, a student’s absences from school are considered excused only with proper documentation for the following reasons: student illness (verified by a licensed medical professional, regardless of the length of the absence), religious holiday, mental health wellness days (These days cannot be taken consecutively, nor shall they exceed a total of two days per school year), death in the family, mandated court appearance, lack of transportation (if transportation is provided by a district other than Stamford), field trips or school-related activities, or extraordinary educational opportunities (must be pre-approved by District administration and be in accordance with CSDE guidelines).

 Senior Class Picture

Seniors will meet on the field below our patio for a senior class photo for the Yearbook, which will be taken by a drone at 9:00 am on Monday, November 7. The picture was postponed from October 24 because of inclement weather. Seniors should wear school colors.

School is Closed – Tuesday, November 8 and Friday, November 11

School is closed on Tuesday, November 8 for Election Day.  Teachers have Professional Development Activities in the building.  School is closed on Friday, November 11 in observance of Veterans’ Day.

 Special Bell Schedule

On Monday, November 7, students will follow a special bell schedule and report to their Connections Time/Mentor Monday class.  Students will learn how to request Flex Time offerings on the Enriching Students platform.

 SPS Magnet Lottery

The SPS Magnet School lottery application is now open for the 2023-24 school year.  Complete information about our magnet school program – including application deadline, lottery draw date and acceptance deadline – is available here and at the top home page of our web site www.aitestamford.org  under AITE Application.

*Please note that if you have a child that is returning to AITE next year and you have an incoming 9th or 10th grade student that you would like to attend AITE, you still must apply through the lottery, where you will be able to indicate that the applicant has a sibling who attends AITE.

Working Paper Awareness

We have been informed by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) that there has been an epidemic of businesses hiring minors and failing to have them acquire Working Papers. Some of these are small business owners, but more often than not they are part of large corporate chains of stores/restaurants. Having minors working without proper documentation of age is a violation and subject to a fine.

If students get a job, as minors they are required to have Working Papers. We have attached a letter that the CSDE sent to superintendents as part of the notification from Commissioner Russell so that parent are informed that their children should be receiving a Promise of Employment letter as a precursor to applying for Working Papers.

If your child has received a Promise of Employment letter they should bring it to Penny Giantomidis in the main office.

Have a nice weekend.
